The aim of this blog is to bring together a nexus of people working on university histories in the broadest context, to provide a platform for discussion on the changing roles and meanings of these institutions through time. It also aims to historicise many of the contemporary issues and debates surrounding higher education today.
The site features posts on the development of the built university, as well as the people and disciplines that have shaped these institutions. It also looks at how student life impacts upon, and is impacted by, the university environment, and the relationship between universities and the wider communities in which they are based.
Through this project, the University History Research Group seeks to make an original contribution to our knowledge of the history of universities in their specific and global contexts.
